Googie spottings!

Today we drove down Beach Blvd. and right off the bat I spotted the carwash featured on one of the Googie sites. Then down the block from that I noticed a giant diamond motel sign and I thought to myself...'now, I bet that is Googie too.' So I surfed some on google and found that very motel in one of the Googie photo albums. I hope to go take my own photo of it soon though.

What is Googie?

The term googie was coined after an coffeeshop named Googie's. Another great Googie Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Googie

Googie Space Age Buildings and Signs

Anyone living in Southern CA cannot help but notice the bizaar architecture from the late 50's. I was born in 1958, so I grew up with it, but it's only recently thanks to shows on PBS and a great website I found tonight at: http://www.spaceagecity.com/googie/ that I decided I should take my digital camera and go document the googie Architecture before it gets bulldozed down. But don't wait for my photos...the website above has many great photos of places you've seen if you live here.
